What is Redline Records

More Than a Service Stamp

Generic logbooks don't speak our language. They don't know the difference between a GSR and an RS, and have no room for 25 years of non-OEM parts history. Redline Records logbooks do, whether that's a model-specific edition built around your exact chassis or the Universal edition covering any JDM performance car in the meantime.

Every section comes from hundreds of hours of research: spec sheets, OEM part references, service schedules, modification registers, dyno and track logs. Redline Records is 100% Australian owned, designed, researched and printed in small batches right here, then shipped straight to your door. International orders are very welcome.

The Evolution Story

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution was never meant to be a road car. It was a homologation tool. To compete in the FIA World Rally Championship, Mitsubishi had to produce a minimum number of road-going examples. The result became one of the most celebrated performance cars ever built.

The Evolution VII (CT9A) was produced at Mitsubishi's Mizushima plant in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, from November 2001 to February 2003. It was the first Evolution to adopt an entirely new body, moving from the previous Lancer platform to the CS-series, giving it a wider track, stiffer structure and improved aerodynamic bodywork.

Tommi Mäkinen drove Mitsubishi to four consecutive WRC Drivers' titles from 1996 to 1999. By the time the Evo VII arrived, the platform had been proven at the highest level of international motorsport. Every road car carried that DNA.

Did you know? Jackie Chan's long-running sponsorship with Mitsubishi ran so deep that Mitsubishi produced limited-edition Lancer Evolutions personally customised by Jackie Chan , sold exclusively in Asian markets.

Introduction · Model Notes

Evolution VII: Notable Facts
280PS ceiling: Japanese manufacturers held a gentleman's agreement capping quoted output at 280PS. The Evo VII's actual output was estimated 15-20% higher, accounting for more realistic test conditions.
Cast-iron block: The 4G63T's iron block is so structurally robust that tuned examples routinely exceed 600PS on the factory bottom end with appropriate supporting modifications.
Magnesium valve cover: At just 1 kg, the Evo VII introduced a magnesium alloy cam cover, saving significant static mass over the Evo VI's aluminium unit.
Hollow camshafts: Internal hollow-core construction reduced rotational mass for quicker throttle response across the rev range.
3-nozzle intercooler: Three water spray nozzles are mounted above the intercooler, designed for sustained high-boost temperature management on stage rally.
ACD driver control: The push-button ACD switch (Tarmac / Gravel / Snow) gave drivers real-time centre differential adjustment, rare for a production road car.
RS stripped weight: The RS variant deleted spare tyre, boot liner, rear wiper and seat foam. Kerb weight approximately 1,350 kg vs 1,400 kg for the GSR.
New platform: The CT9A introduced the Evolution's first completely new platform since the Evo IV. The wider track and stiffer body shell significantly improved handling balance over the previous CP9A.
Revised intake manifold: The Evo VII adopted an aluminium intake manifold with improved internal flow design over the Evo VI, contributing to better charge efficiency at high boost.
Production numbers: Mitsubishi produced approximately 11,000 Evo VII units across all variants before transitioning to the Evo VIII in 2003.
This logbook covers the GSR and RS variants of the Lancer Evolution VII CT9A. The GT-A (export-market automatic) is not covered in this edition.

ACD / AYC Fluid: Do not substitute with ATF or gear oil. These are proprietary Mitsubishi fluids. ACD / AYC pump failure from incorrect fluid is common and expensive. Use Mitsubishi Diaqueen ACD / AYC only.
Engine Oil: Factory spec 10W-30 full synthetic. Penrite 10 Tenths or equivalent ester-based recommended. Modified builds: reduce interval to 3,000-4,000 km. On higher-km engines 10W-40 is sometimes used to compensate for increased clearances. Filter: OEM MD356000, Purflux LS285, or Ryco Z411.

▲ Timing Belt + Balance Shaft Belt: Failure causes catastrophic engine damage on the 4G63T (interference engine). Replace timing belt, the balance shaft belt, water pump, tensioner and idler at 90,000 km or 5 years. The belt is frequently overlooked but failure can stop the engine immediately. Record date and odometer in service log.
Modified builds: oil intervals to 3,000-4,000 km · Brake fluid after every track event · ACD/AYC fluid neglect causes rapid pump failure: do not skip these services.

Everything I wish a vehicle booklet from factory had. Half brochure almost too, like showing off the car that you own. Made me proud to own one just reading through the introduction section.

About Redline Records

Built by an Enthusiast, For Enthusiasts

I'm Dylan, a one-man operation based in Brisbane, Australia. After years of hunting down platform-specific part numbers with nowhere to properly record a car's history, I got frustrated enough to write the logbook I'd always wanted myself. Every order is researched, designed, packed and posted by me, and printed right here in Australia.

Married to Nicole, step-dad to Xander, and currently running a gold Evo VII GT-A with a TD05 from an Evo IX, a tune, full exhaust and a few other bits. Car guy through and through, but just as into tech and gadgets.

Founded in 2024, Redline Records produces premium maintenance and history books for JDM performance cars. Model-specific editions are tailored to a single chassis, with factory specifications, service intervals, technical information, production history, VIN and engine details, modification records, maintenance logs and ownership history. The Universal edition covers any JDM performance car without its own dedicated book yet, going deep into JDM history, chassis code reference, importing and servicing guidance at a broader level, alongside the same full set of logs. Either way, its designed to become part of the cars history, not just another notebook.

A generic logbook is blank ruled pages with no context for your car at all: no chassis reference, no JDM history, no dedicated sections for mods, ECU tunes, dyno runs or track days. Every Redline Records book, model-specific or Universal, has all of that built in from the start. A model-specific edition goes further, pre-filled with your exact cars factory specs and part numbers. The Universal edition takes a broader approach instead, covering JDM history, chassis codes across the JDM landscape, importing and servicing guidance, with blank fields for you to record your own verified figures. Either way, its built for how JDM cars are actually owned and modified, not a notebook that could be for anything.

We are gradually expanding the range across iconic Japanese performance cars. Evolution VII, Evolution VII GT-A, Evolution VIII, Evolution IX, Evolution IX Wagon, and Airtrek Turbo-R are in stock now. Toyota 86 GT/GTS and Subaru BRZ are open for preorder. Evolution VI, Evolution 6.5 TME and Subaru WRX GC8 are currently in development. If your exact model does not have a dedicated edition yet, the Universal JDM Logbook covers any JDM performance car in the meantime, with the same premium build and reference pages that work for any model. New models are continually being researched, and it typically takes 3 to 6 months for a new dedicated edition to be written, reviewed and published. If you would like to request one, head over to the Contact page.

A model-specific book is built entirely around one chassis: the exact factory specifications, torque figures, OEM part numbers and known weak points for that car, researched and verified model by model. The Universal JDM Logbook takes a broader view instead, covering the history of JDM performance cars, chassis code reference across manufacturers, importing guidance and general servicing know-how, alongside the same full set of logs (service, mods, ECU tunes, dyno runs, track days). Its for any JDM performance car that does not have its own dedicated edition yet, with blank reference fields so you record your own verified figures as you go. In short: model-specific where it exists, universal until it does.
